PRAYER AND REFLECTION AT ST THOMAS'

We believe in nurturing the spiritual growth of every child, fostering an environment where they can explore faith, reflect on life’s questions, and develop a sense of purpose and hope. Prayer and reflection are central to our daily life, underpinning our values and shaping our caring and inclusive school community.

Our Approach to Prayer

Prayer is an important part of our school day. It provides moments of stillness and thoughtfulness, helping us to connect with God, express gratitude, and seek guidance. Through prayer, we encourage our pupils to develop compassion, humility, and resilience.

  • Daily Worship: Each day we take part in a collective act of worship, where we come together as a school family to pray, sing, and reflect on a theme linked to our Christian values.
  • Special Services: Throughout the year, we hold special services at our local parish church, celebrating key moments in the Christian calendar.

Spaces for Prayer and Reflection

We recognise the importance of quiet moments to pause, think, and reflect. Our school provides spaces where children can take time to consider their feelings, thoughts, and relationship with God. Every classroom has a prayer and reflection area with prompts, scriptures, and activities to inspire thoughtful prayer and contemplation.

Encouraging Personal Faith

We respect and welcome children and families of all faiths and none. Our approach is inclusive, allowing everyone to explore big questions about life and spirituality in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage pupils to share their own thoughts and beliefs while fostering respect for others’ perspectives.

Supporting Reflection at Home

We encourage families to continue the practice of prayer and reflection at home. Resources and ideas are regularly shared in our newsletters to help parents and carers engage in meaningful discussions and activities with their children.

Prayer and reflection are not just part of our daily routine, they are part of who we are. Together, we grow in faith, understanding, and love, guided by the light of Christ.

Our school prayer reminds us of the love we share for one another as a school family and of  God’s presence in our everyday lives.

Our prayer and reflection spaces give children a way to explore personal reflection and prayer for themselves using a selection of engaging and creative activities.

Our children learn the modern version of the Lord's prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, when they asked him how they should pray.
